Warning: Confusing Warning Signs Ahead!

The Cliffs of Moher are amazing and breath-taking. Where the Atlantic ocean hits Ireland, these cliffs provide one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions.

To cope with the hundreds of thousands of visitors that come each year, the cliff edge has been protected by a wall and warning signs abound of the dangers.

Visitors to the cliffs are admonished to avoid karate-kicking the wall blocking access to the cliff edge.

Come close to read the small text explaining what the extreme danger is, only to realize the warning indicates that the cliff you now are standing on is “Extremely Unstable”.

  1. The last sign means that you shouldn’t attempt to put out small grass fires on your own – the local seagulls have been trained to carry ‘beak-fuls’ of sea water up the cliffs to dowse the flames.

    That’s what I think anyway …

  2. That’s a good read. I was thinking it was indicating that, despite any suspicions you might have, you will not see the Phoenix rising from flames.

  3. I think the last sign is trying to warn the passerby that in addition to the dangerous cliffs all around, there might also seagull “contributions” in the grass nearby that could be equally as dangerous
