Water-Logged

A flooded pier

A few weeks back, Boulder, Colorado, got hit hard with rain. Over one foot of rain in a 24-hour period.

When this much rain happens, things that used to protect you from the water now put you in the water. The best example that I found was this lovely pier, from which you could normally float above the surface of the lake and peer across the beauty. Not anymore! This beautiful dock now provides an excellent opportunity to become one with the lake. Walk out over the planks to feel the lake as part of you. The water will rush through your toes and you will never again wish to be floating above it.

Another thing that flipped was how much I normally hate getting wet. If it were to rain a few drops, I normally would scramble to find an umbrella or other safe haven. Sounds would be emitted from my mouth as I scurry for cover. However, in the Boulder downpour, a few friends and I went running through the streets. We put on our splashing gear and streamed forward. The rain felt glorious, and not a chore.

Readers, how has rain affected your lives in a quirky way?

  1. As devastating as those floods must have been, this photo speaks of serenity. What a contrast between the chaos of destruction and the solitude of calm.
