New Twitter users soon find that even before they post too many tweets, they are being “followed” by some dodgy characters they’ve never met or heard of. By clicking on one that I thought looked like a spam account, I saw this message from Twitter:
(In case you can’t read the text in the screenshot, we’ve reprinted it here: This account is currently suspended and is being investigated due to strange activity. If this is your account, or for more information about why an account may be suspended, see Suspended Accounts.)
So, I guess we can consider this as a warning to you Twitter users … if you engage in “strange activities” you’re liable to have your account suspended.
By the way, you can follow chickenmonkeydog on Twitter (cmdonline) … but do try to keep your weirdness to a minimum, lest the Twitter police hunt you down and suspend you.
I think by strange activity they mean ‘a new account suddenly starts following too many people’. Pity they do not have a ‘report’ function. I might report some 😉
@ Shefaly
That seems like a reasonable assumption to make, but I prefer to think of it as if the Twitter user has started carrying a snow shovel about in the summertime or eating marshmallows in their beer.
Hmm, no one strange has tried to follow me. 🙁
@ Meg – Does Conall follow you? He would probably be noted as ‘strange’ by the Twitter police. (‘Hee-hee’, snickers Liam as his fingers dance across the keyboard.)
I get more than one strange followers everyday. Ah but most of them are just trying to sell porn, so they are not that strange either (not anymore)
@ Liam
Sadly, Conall does not follow me.
@ Balu – Ah yes, the porn-sellers of the world. They always take advantage of whatever latest communication device or medium comes into trend. Annoying, that.
@ Meg – I’m sure if you asked him nice, he might. Sure, he’s odd, but he’s also friendly enough. Go one, give it a try …
Ah, now all becomes clear. I wondered what strange activity was. You can find anything out if you google it. Thanks for your help.
