Sleeping Upon Sleep

Have you ever had one of your arms or legs “fall asleep“?

Have you ever had that happen when you’ve been asleep yourself?

Does anyone else find it weird that you can have multiple layers of sleep going on at the same time? Odd that different parts of your body can fall asleep at different times?

Sometimes I do think it would be convenient if we could only rest half of our brains at a time, like dolphins do. I’m pretty sure I could rest throughout the work day. I know I’ve been in plenty of meetings where only half a brain would have sufficed.

  1. Only once in my life have I had a body part fall asleep, while I laid asleep.

It was my right arm, which was was draped across my chest.

I woke up and in my groggy state didn’t realize my arm was asleep and across my chest. However, I woke up VERY, VERY quickly when my brain suddenly realized a heavy & foreign mass was laying across my chest!

I damn near wet myself leaping out of bed.

  2. Have you had dreams in which you were cognizant of the fact that you were asleep and dreaming? Those always kind of weird me out.

The mind is an amazingly complex bit of kit.

  3. This makes me wonder why we say a body part has fallen asleep because when someone falls asleep their entire body doesn’t get that feeling. Strange.

  4. Part of your brain does drift in and out of consciousness through the day. This is why it is sometimes harder to focus than others.
