Sharing a Room with 87,547 People

I was fortunate enough to have a ticket to last night’s football match between England and the Ukraine. Played at Wembley Stadium (England’s national football arena), the stadium itself is just massive. The official attendance level was 87,548. Take a look at the video to see just how big a room that holds 90,000 is.

By way of comparison, think about how big a room you would need if you were to have a party for 87 people at your house. Or how many toilets you would need. Or how much food. It’s pretty staggering to think that Wembley Stadium can comfortably seat 90,000 – and that doesn’t include all the staff working the match either!

  1. How many of thos people do you think you might know?

How many degrees of separation from the person sitting next to you?

If the bomb threat in the last posting came here that would be newsworthy!

  2. @ mom –

I knew at least three other people there … the three friends I went with. Not sure about the other degrees … didn’t run into anybody that I knew.

And, yes, I was grateful that there wasn’t a bomb threat. Thanks for your concern.

  3. I think U of Michigan’s football stadium holds just over 100,000 people and it is for a college team. Here’s a link to a view of it(I am not sure when the photo was taken so it may show the stadium slightly smaller than it is today and the plan is to hold 110,000 in the next year or so). Being in a stadium with that many people is for sure an experience.

I would not want to be anywhere near it if there was an emergency evacuation.

And, could you even see the ball from as high as it looks like you were?

U of M hold 106,000 … for a college team. Amazing! A friend of mine was telling me that some cricket grounds in India can hold 120,000!

What I think is fantastic about Wembley Stadium is that it is enclosed (with a retractable roof), so what you essentially have is a room that holds 90,000+ people. Wow!
