Nothing About Rust

side walk rust
How little I know about rust. On an afternoon walk I spotted a not uncommon rust spot on the sidewalk.

Rusted cement? What is that about?

It reminded me of how rust seems to appear in random places, yet is such a familiar sight that I hardly even take notice, at least not until it is too late and the damage is done.

  1. That red stuff running through your veins… that’s rust too. Iron oxide. The theoretical end of the universe will be nothing but black holes and iron oxide dust.

Rust distorts a metal surface and so usually locks metal joints in place yes, but without iron oxide in your blood your tissues would asphyxiate. This is why veins are red (oxygenated) and arteries are blue. The red color means oxygen is stored by the iron as iron oxide, yes basically rust.
