Car Soor Locking Etiquette

The other day, I believe that I was deliberately snubbed by a fellow motorist walking across a parking lot with his young son. Let me explain.

As I came out of a store, I crossed the parking lot towards my car. It was early on a Saturday morning and I was, admittedly, looking less than Saville Row.

Coming from the location of my car was a younger man in his late 20s or early 30s. He was walking with and holding the hand of a young boy, who I guess was his son. The ‘father’ and I made eye contact and I muttered a quick greeting. It was all pleasant enough.

Yet as soon as I had passed the father and his son, the father turned around and using his remote key, locked his car doors. The chirp-chirp of the remote key, combined of the slamming of the car locks signaled loud and clear that my presence had made the father think it necessary to secure his automobile.

Was I to be hurt by this affront to my honesty? What is the proper etiquette for remotely locking one’s car doors in the presence of strangers?

  1. Let us not disavow the possibility of it being a coincidence.

You should have left him a CMD card on the windshield.

  2. Be honest…you were planning on breaking into that man’s car, weren’t you?

    Weren’t you???

I thought so. You exude criminality.

  3. Propper etiquette would be to pick up his son and run screaming into the store. If he didn’t do this, its probably a coincidence.

So, the father should have picked up his son and run screaming? Or the shady author of this post should have picked up the guy’s son?
