When filling up my car at a gas station in late December, I took a moment to read a notice posted on the pump.
NOTICE TO OUR VALUED CANADIAN CUSTOMERS
For security purposes, we require U.S. postal code verification for credit card transactions at the pump.
Because our verification system may not accommodate Canadian postal codes, please see the cashier inside the store to complete your credit card transaction.
We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for your business.
Those poor Canadians! Harassed and haggled by The Simpsons and so much of Hollywood, they are now being discriminated against for their postal codes.
If you look at the Wikipedia page linked to in this post, you can see that Canada has claimed the North Pole as its own territory. Is that right?
What, it’s too difficult to program the Canadian postal codes into the credit card reading system? Seems like they are just trying to make it difficult to be from Canada!
I thought it was South Park that harassed Canadians?
Yup, sounds to me like a lazy (or Canadian hating) programmer.
“What? Six digits? With letters? I can’ deal with that!”
