Don’t Skimp on the Three Letters

A Watch Children sign

I see these signs all around where I live. I know what they are intending — keep an eye out for children while driving.

Yet, I find the lack of that little word ‘for’ as a problem. Can we not afford the extra three letters so as to make our intention unmistakeable?

  1. Maybe they really want us to slow down, pull over and watch the children play… But then again, maybe not, that would be creepy.

  2. I’d rather the shorter sign. I’m tired of signs that are too long to read before you drive by them. That seems silly here, but if you added the “for” you’d have to reduce the font size of the other two words and by the time I could read them I’d be past the sign. Just saying. :p
