Who’s That Guy In Your Wedding Picture?

After recently starting a new job, one of our readers observed a conversational oddity when meeting many new coworkers.

Upon her desk this reader keeps a large photo of her and her husband, taken on their wedding day (i.e. white dress for her, tuxedo for him, romantic pose).

When new colleagues stopped by to introduce themselves, almost all of them asked “Is that your husband?”

Our reader commented: Do people really think I would take a picture like that with someone who is NOT my husband???

Thanks to a Milwaukee-based chickenmonkeydoggian for contributing the idea for this post!

  1. I could understand possible confusion on the part of the coworkers if the reader’s husband looks like a close relative or old enough to be her father.

  2. Being one of those people who says, “is that your husband” — I’m going to say — yes, I know it’s ridiculous, but what if it’s NOT your husband!? What if it’s her twin, or something!? I’d rather sacrifice the momentary stupidity for the off-chance that otherwise it might be SERIOUSLY akward.

  3. What quesion would be more appropriate or polite to ask when seeing such a photo for the first time on a colleague’s desk?
