Where Does Ground Cinnamon Come From?

Jar of cinnamon

This morning as I was making breakfast for my kids, I happened to read the label on the bottle of cinnamon that I was sprinkling on their apple slices.  I noticed the allergy warning on the bottle:

Warning label on jar of cinnamon

Allergy Warning:  May contain traces of milk, eggs, wheat and soy.

Given the warning above, I can only surmise that the manufacturer is getting the cinnamon, not by grinding up a cinnamon stick, but rather by distilling it from French toast.  Seems rather inefficient to me.

  1. It does leave one wondering this gets to be such a Great Value if they are extracting the spice from French toast.
