1) 12 / 2 = 6
2) 12 + 12 + 12 = 6 * 6
3) 6 is the first number who’s prime factors add up to itself (i.e. 1 + 2 + 3 = 1 * 2 * 3 = 6).
4) If you add up the digits of the next year (2013) you get 6.
5) If you add up the digits in the date 12/12 you get 6.
6) A hexagon (6-sided figure) is the highest polygon that can be tessellated.

Just iterating. It’s clear they tried five and that Didnt work!
Would it be so wrong to knock three times and keep walking because three knocks only does not signify an interest in entering?
It doesn’t say knock to enter. Maybe they just like the sound of six knocks? Or they believe a random stranger knocking six times will break some sort of curse.
