“No Tips Please”
Did the person who scratched at the “no” really think people would be convinced that they need to tip now?
In a related question, when you put out a tip jar, how nice do you want it to look? Too dingy and people may not want to go near it. Too fancy and they may think you do not need a tip.
In another line of thought, I wish establishments were more transparent about what happens to the tips. Do they get shared among all employees? Everyone on the shift? Do they go to the company? For me at least, I usually prefer not to give money when I do not know where it is going.
There is a Dunkin Donuts near where I live that has a tip cup out on the order/payment counter. It always surprises me to see any money in there as the staff at this particular Dunkin Donuts are effectively robots. They serve coffee and put donuts in a box with sufficient speed and professionalism, but they do so without a smile, or a ‘Hi, how are you today?’ They do nothing to engage with the me as a customer.
Why would anyone tip for that at a fast food restaurant?
