The Return of the Green Machine

Are you old enough to you remember Big Wheels?

When I was growing up, there was a boy down the street who had the toughest, meanest big wheel on the block. He was a nice kid; he was lucky enough to have the Green Machine, which was a rear-wheel steering, practically recumbant, crazy-fast peddling big wheel!

I hadn’t see Green Machines for years – I thought they were no longer being made.

Until last weekend … Behold, the new, sleeker, meaner, Green Machine!

  1. When I was little my parents bribed me with a Big Wheel once. It was purple and black and awesome.

  2. Haha, I had to stop sucking my thumb. I got the Big Wheel, but I don’t remember if I actually kept to my end of the deal.

  3. For the record, the Green Machine in the picture cost £119.00! Not sure what they costs when I was growing up. Seems ruddy expensive to my wallet.

What would Bibbie or John O’Brien think?

Thanks, Mom. We only fairly recently threw that Big Wheel out, didn’t we?

    @ Liam

I don’t know how much it cost (hopefully my mom can jump in again) but I think the fact that it survived 3 cities across America, 4 moves, and 5 kids is a testament to its awesomeness. Worthy of any price.

  5. I had one of these when I was a kid about 30 years ago!! My parents gave it to me for Christmas, I couldn’t ride it outside for at least a month because of the snow so I rode it in the house and mastered tight corners and small spaces. It lasted about a year until the pedal crank broke. I was the only one I knew that owned one and one of my favorite toys.
