One of my friends has the last name of Dempsey. In recent years, there have been a couple of Dempseys to make it big time, routinely making it into the news:
So, whenever I see a headline like the one in the screenshot above, it always makes me giggle. My default understanding of the headline is to assume it’s about my friend. It’s only when I start reading into the article do I realize it’s about some other, actually famous, Dempsey.
When Clint Dempsey was playing in the World Cup, I got a lot of texts when “C. Dempsey” scored.
I suspect he also gets a lot of texts when I finish big projects at the office.
