Spam Keeps Us Together

“Hey Conall, where you been”

“Hi Conall”

“What’s up Conall?”

“We still on for lunch tomorrow?”

“Your couch. Your office.”

Over the last three weeks I’ve been getting a lot of spam emails that purport to be written by an old friend. The subject lines from some of those emails are listed above.

I have not spoken to this friend in about seven years and suddenly I am getting two or three spam email from their account every week. The friend probably is not aware that the emails are being sent and they may not even use that email account anymore, but as this steady stream of spam continues I find myself tempted to get back in touch with the friend.

Do I need to be grateful to spammers for encouraging me to get back in touch?

  1. No because most spammers, are actually just an artifact of the Internet waking up. You can thank mother Internet, but she doesn’t understand gratitude.

    Not yet.
