On a recent vacation, I made a decision not to speak of the US Debt Crisis and, more importantly, not to watch or listen to any news about it. I avoided TV news broadcasts, radio programs and the new websites. It was one of my most relaxing holidays ever.
It got me to thinking, “How nice would it be if all news outlets took a two-week break from reporting on politics?” Think about it. We would hear more about art, literature, music, and maybe … just maybe … something about the average man or woman living a normal life. Wouldn’t that be refreshing?
If they don’t report on politics they’ll start reporting about cats stuck on trees or something as trivial as that.
@ | Balu |,
At least that would be a change of pace …
But then where will all the people who just want to be angry and feel self-righteous inspite of their stupidity and sheepishness go? Where? Political news outlets provide a service! They make people feel more important then they are.
@Jordan
I thought that’s what the internetz was for =/
@Liam
Try business news channels.
@| Balu |, But can the internet provide this service for the older generation? No, because they don’t understand it. We need something that they are used to. Somethign that won’t scare them.
@ | Balu | –
I was just thinking that very same thought, that is, to listen to a different station. I think sports radio would be less likely to mention politics. Big business is too closely tied to politics.
@Liam, Politics is about life. Its the divisiveness that is so irritating.
@ Jordan,
There is much truth and some wisdom there. Well said.
My last comment made it sound like I am 60 years old. I am not. I am half of that– no, I cannot tell a lie, I am actually 10. Well, in my head anyway.
@ Jordan,
I’d like to think that my comments make me seem like I exist outside the dimension of time.
