Please, I’m Not in a Hurry.

scissorsI went for a hair cut yesterday.

As I walked down the street to the barber, I was in a bit of a hurry, because I had another meeting in about an hour. Still, I realized that if I was in a major rush, I might SKIP the barber, but that I would never sit down and say “I’m in a hurry, so can you make this quick.”

I have definitely been in a rush and asked restaurants, coffee houses, mechanics, and other service providers to please deliver their services quickly before though.

So then I got to wondering, where is the dividing line between services I am willing to have delivered quickly, and those where I always want it to be done without haste.

Beyond the obvious surgery, dental work, and haircuts (all things where people are working with sharp objects near your body), what other things fall into this caterory of “Please, take your time” type services?

  1. May fall into the same category as dentistry and surgery, but tattooing. Something that permanent is definitely worth a little extra time in the chair.

  2. I’d suggest that if one were to order one bourbon, one scotch and one beer, then one would not want to be rushed to consume them.
