Park at Your Own Risk

I’ve been seeing more and more of these pre-printed sticky notes in various neighborhoods.  They get placed on the windows of offending cars:

A parking notice

PLEASE TAKE JUST ONE PARKING PLACE.  Please make an effort to be courteous to other people who are trying to park here.  Taking up more than one space means someone in the neighborhood will have to pay for parking tonight!  IT COULD BE YOU NEXT TIME!  THANK YOU

Have people gone out of their way to find these for sale?  Did they have them made and are handing them out at condo association meetings?  Regardless, I really appreciate the image of the sun they have included at top left-hand corner to make you feel better about the fact that someone just subtly threatened you.

  1. Having lived in Chicago I am certain this is preferable to some of the other ‘gentle reminders’ I saw applied to various vehicles.

    Ahem…

  2. Taking up more than one space means someone in the neighborhood will have to pay for parking tonight.

This makes the underlying assumption that on any given night there are as many or more people trying to park than there are “spaces”, doesn’t it? It also assumes that you’re not taking up two spaces as a method of saving it for someone you know.

  3. @ Conall I think your first point is spot on. More cars than spots. Saving spots doesn’t fly in Chicago. It’s all rather unpleasant unfortunately, but that’s why they have the L!
