I came across a license plate in America when I was there over the recent holiday season. I was driving north on Randall Road, from I-90, near Algonquin, Illinois.
And then I wondered …
- Was it a request for us – the motoring public – to love the driver’s children?
- Perhaps it was a self-reminder to the driver to love his or her own children?
- Or maybe it was an outward facing statement confirming – indeed, broadcasting – the love the driver has for his or her own children.
Anyway, I concluded that I thought it was a weird choice for a vanity plate. But then, maybe I was just being grumpy and stingy.
@ Liam
Taking pictures while driving??? Tsk tsk.
Perhaps you completely misinterpreted this license plate — perhaps the “LV” is not “love,” but rather “leave” and this person is begging DCFS (child protective services) to find the children….
@ Conall –
Why do you assume that I took the photo?
@ Meaghan –
Huh … hadn’t considered that before. That would not only be weird, but also frightening.
What’s so weird?: that the driver made an “outward facing statement confirming – indeed, broadcasting – the love the driver has for his or her own children” – or that he (or she) chose to do so by means of a vanity plate?
Well, I think it’s sweet (but then again, maybe I’m just being jolly and kind). 😉
One could interpret the plate to say “Live, My Kids!”
Perhaps this person thinks of themselves as a motherly or fatherly figure speaking to the world.
Some other license plates that I have noticed in the past –
Hummer saying “MASSIVE”
Hummer saying “LANEHOG”
LAMBORGHINI saying “RICHAMI”… a bit arrogant I would say…
In the current world where we can reach another person in so many ways this person has found yet another medium to share the love. Perhaps they caravan a lot in this family.
Holla.
perhaps it has nothing to do with children….i think this may just be a big fan of Keds!

Maybe it was a gift from the kids to the driver, and the plates were just the card that came with the gift.
@ Michelle – Well, I did confess that I might be have been reacting in a harsh way …
@ Steve – So, a Carpe diem sort of call to action issued to the children? Could well be, but I certainly wouldn’t want that particular mum or dad for a parent. I bet they make the children do jumping jacks (star jumps) first thing in the morning to get fit.
@ Mark – That would be too cool! I’d love to get a pair of Keds. My favourite shoes on that website are the green ones.
@ Maire – Then wouldn’t it have been ‘LV YR KDS’?
True, but LV YR KDS may sound too much like a command to readers to love their own kids. The owner may have wanted the world to know that the car was a gift from his/her kids.
That being said, I like Mark’s answer the best.
i admit it was not my car.
@ Mom—is that a hint that you may not love your kids????
I think its the second. The driver needed to reminders: Love my kids or wife will throw me out.
