Earlier today, I was outside when I heard the rumble of large jets passing overhead. This is nothing new as I live more or less on a flight path heading toward Philadelphia International Airport. (Fortunately, I live far enough away from the airport that the planes are still pretty high when they pass me overhead.)
When I looked up, I was surprised to see not one – but three large – jets flying in what was an awfully tight pattern for commercial (passenger) airliners. Yet the planes were definitely large transport jet-engine planes. They were all the same dark shade, so I assumed that they were military jets.
Having no military experience outside of being drafted by the US Air Force for a short period of time in 1999 (that’s a story for another post), I was wondering if any of our readers could shed some light here. Do military transport planes fly in such tight patterns? Do they fly along commercial airline routes?
And by UFO, I mean Underidentified Flying Object. What I saw today was definitely three airplanes. In fact, the general shape and look of the planes were similar to those of a Boeing 737.
P.S. Sorry about the rubbish quality of the photo — can someone please have a word with Steve Jobs about improving the quality of the iPhone camera?
When was last time you saw a high quality UFO picture? 😉
@Balu: You have made my day!

Good point! I guess you’ll just have to trust the Editors of chickenmonkeydog.com. Ha-ha!
Simple, its the Navy’s new top secret project. A single plane that looks like three different planes. A thirteen billion dollar project is off the runway. Huzzah!
I have heard tales of your conscription in the Air Force. According to legend you served with honor and distinction during a time of need for both your country and fellow service members. Kudos to you sir!
Our we certain these are planes in the image or dust specks on the photographers AA filter, which would show up clearly on a picture of the sky… like this.
Do we have a large version we can look at?
@ Forkboy,
Nope. What you see is what I got. The planes were moving fast enough that I wouldn’t have been able to dash to get my ‘real’ camera.
Through the power that is Twitter, I did learn today that the Air Force uses a plane that looks a lot like what I saw … although the planes I saw were painted greenish-grey.

You, Liam, took these? No doubt about it then… they were aliens. And is it a coincidence that there were three of them? Three?! As in Chicken (1), Monkey (2) and Dog (3)?
I think not.
I’m beginning to believe CMD’s message has left our solar system (probably some sort of warp in the time-space fabric…. I’m certain Data could explain it to us) and has attracted the attention of others.
They were just checking you out.
Like Data from Star Trek TNG? Cause he rocks!
@ Forkboy,
I think you may overestimate the power chickenmonkeydog. Perhaps in time we will become the intergalatic force that was Wyld Stallyns, but we’re still just day-to-day people now.
@ Jordan,
Never was a Trekkie myself, but still, TNG is totally lame compared to the original series, with the possible exception of Jean Luc Picard.
**Gasp*** Say it aint so! 🙁
