Whilst at a family gathering this the holiday season, I stumbled across an old Fisher Price toy school house (literally – I tripped over it) like one I used to play with as a child. It brought back fond memories of growing up and of playing at home. As there were no children immediately about, I took a moment to look inside the toy school house to see how much of it I remembered.
The general look and feel of the interior was familiar to me, yet I was surprised by what I saw on the back wall. The globe looks like it was documenting what the earth looked like before the continents drifted to their present location. Is that big green blob Greenland or Europe? South America looks about right, but North America looks a fraction of its actual size.
And what about those mice in the cage? Are those ‘real’ mice? If so, is that cage sufficient? It looks really cramped in there … and where are the food and water dispensers?
As Billy Corgan put it, these mice might be thinking:
“Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage.”
I think these particular mice could quite easily escape this cage, as the bars are too far apart to prevent it. Perhaps this is not so much a cage as a mouse playground. The “cage” looks an awful lot like some playground equipment I remember from growing up. What do you think?
@ Conall – I misread your comment at first and thought to myself, ‘That lyric isn’t from Billy Connolly … it’s from the Smashing Pumpkins.’ Ha-ha.
If that cage is a playground, I wonder why the mice stay in it. Seems rather un-mouse-like.
