Received this bit of post from the American Diabetes Association the other day. A nickle was affixed to the letter asking for my financial support.
If every nickel counts, wouldn’t it make more sense for them to keep the nickel? The only way I know to fight diabetes with that 5 cents is to not buy a doughnut with it.
Got to admit, the ADA is not inspiring confidence about their money-management skills.
please advise where you can buy a doughnut for 5 cents. We can put all our nickels to good use.
I’ve gotten these too…. always leaves me scratching my head.
And not because I have dandruff.
I would like a doughnut right now. Even though I don’t really think a 5 cent doughnut is worthwhile.
I am sorry guys but the doughnut is a lie
My bank gives away doughnuts in their lobby. Maybe if I bring in a nickel to deposit in my account they will let me have a doughnut?
The nickel is an attention grabber. It’s not so heavy so as to make postage significantly more expensive. Moreover, from a design and print perspective, an extra 5¢ per unit is a non-cost.
So, by including the nickel in the fundraising appeal, the charity is (1) getting attention — we’re blogging about it, right? — and (2) may even get people to post the nickel back into them, thereby recuperating some of their marketing costs.
post the nickel back at 44 cents per letter? who are you kidding?
@ am,
If the charity sent out return envelopes with bulk rate postage …
Some ministries tell me: “send us money and you will be financially blessed.” I call them up imediately and say to the call center person, “how about you send ME money and then your ministry will be financially blessed.” I’ve done this like three times.
They are never amused.
