Don’t you love how dishes of fried food are often served up on a “bed of fresh lettuce”?
We all know that it is not healthy to eat fried foods and we know that none of us ever actually eat the lettuce (probably because it is now grease covered), but somehow the trend persists.
Are we hoping for a little nutrition by osmosis? That the fried foods might become less unhealthy by spending time with more healthy food?
Maybe the restaurants are just looking to increase the percentage of dishes on the menu which are served with something healthy.
Maybe they just have extra lettuce.
I’m not going to go there. I’m not going to be the juvenile one.
Nope. Not going there.
But as the picture shows, the lettuce is often a bit wilted and gross, so no health-minded person would eat it anyway.
I suspect that placing scalding hot fried oil on it would tend to wilt even the freshest of lettuce very quickly.
