With all this news coverage of Hurricane Sandy and the weather drama pummeling the East Coast of the United States, I have to say that I love weather news coverage.
I know, I know, the local weatherman or weatherwoman is wrong about 98% of the time (hee-hee), but could you imagine getting this much advance notice of a major storm even 100 years ago? Think about living 200 or 300 years ago, back when 99% of us would have been surviving day-to-day on a hand-to-mouth basis. The sort of storm that Sandy is proving to be would catch us with maybe a few hours of notice … them WHAMO! Pounding rain, gale force winds, flash flooding and even snow!
In times like this, I say “Thank you” to whoever contributes to the advancement of meterological and information technology.
I was just thinking today that I would not enjoy having a huge storm with the same name as me. Of course, since my name is Conall, this is very unlikely.
That said, I don’t think I’d enjoy being nominally associated with destruction and death and all that comes with one of these major storms.
at least one would not lose the internet years ago.
