I like listening to music when I work. In fact, I am less productive when I am not listening to music. The music helps me get a work groove on and enables me to slip into a flow of creativity and productivity. I normally use my iPod to play music through a little speaker-system, but sometimes I wear headphones. I like the full, over the ear headphones as I think they project a better sound.
But I don’t like that they get my ears all hot after a few hours of listening. Short of some sort of liquid cooled headphones (which would probably pretty expensive if they even exist), I am struggling for a way to improve my predicament.
Anybody have any ideas? And does anybody else suffer this same ‘hot ear’ problem?
(P.S. To ensure that this post reflects our editorial anonymity, our technical team has blurred out the photo of one of our editors wearing headphones.)
Try using ear bud headphones. Nothing covering your ears.
@ Kieran –
But I don’t like the bud headphones. They are uncomfortable for me.
Any other ideas?
I think you might have problems outside of the headphones…
@ Steve –
Oh, do you think it might be to do with the cords? Perhaps the plug? I hadn’t considered that …
I have known certain nameless children who have suffered from “hot ear” and what I have witnessed them doing is to lick their first finger and then use that moisture to “cool” their ears. It is probably best to do this when no one else is around to observe you though.
@ Moira –
Um, that’s a lovely image. I use water or small ice cubes. Easier and perhaps more sanitary that way.
