Giving Johnny Cash a lift

Johnny CashSo, I’ve been listening to some Johnny Cash this week, to help me get through a busy work week. When listening to his I’ve Been Everywhere (which is a fantastic song), I envisioned the following conversation:

A large, canvas-topped semi-tractor and trailer slows to a stop alongside a desolate stretch of country road. Dressed in black, Johnny Cash runs to catch the stopping truck. He opens the passenger door and climbs in …

Johnny Cash: Hey, mister, I sure appreciate the ride. It’s tough walking out there.
Truck Driver: If you’re goin’ to Winnemucca, Mack, with me you can ride.
Johnny Cash: Great! That’s where I am going.
Truck Driver: Ok, get in then.

… and a few minutes later, trying to be friendly, the truck driver starts up the conversation again …

Truck Driver: Have you ever seen a road with so much dust and sand?
Johnny Cash: Listen, I’ve traveled every road in this here land. I’ve been everywhere man, I’ve been everywhere, man. Crossed the desert’s bare, man. I’ve breathed the mountain air, man. Of travel I’ve had my share, man. I’ve been everywhere. I’ve been to Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota, Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow, Sarasota, Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma, Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma, Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo, Tocapillo, Baranquilla, and Perdilla, I’m a killer.

… and then Johnny Cash spends the next 3 minutes listing all the places that he has been, to which the Driver responds …

Truck Driver: I’ve was just trying to be friendly. I’m a truck driver. I’ve been loads of places too. But ya don’t hear me going on about it! Geez! You shore are a cocky ol’ som-ov-a-gun!
