I saw these street signs in Pittsburgh the other day. They reminded me of Patrick Henry’s famous quote, "Give me liberty or give me death." I wonder if he went through any iterations before he came up with the final and famous version …
… give me cheese or give me crackers …
… give me liberty or give me a pocket-watch …
… give me a liberty or, at least give me a reduction on my taxes …
… give me liberty or give me the Strip District …
Ha ha! This ‘signs’ series is fantastic. One couldn’t make this up, really.
What exactly goes on in the ‘Strip District’? Should we make any conclusion about the personal habits of the driver of the SUV given that he or she is headed there?
That’s the trouble with choices. I suppose it was a no-brainer for Mr.Henry, but for those of us who are a lot less illustrious and noble-minded, does this mean that one can’t have liberty and the strip district? Or cheese and crackers?

I dearly treasure the land where I have the freedom and liberty to choose to go to the Strip District if I was so inclined! God Bless America!

The Strip district, to all outward appearances is just a newly “hot” part of town with lots of old factories converted into fancy condos, Saturday morning markets, and very nice restaurants. How it got the name Strip District we can only imagine.

Perhaps that idea never crossed Patrick Henry’s mind. If it had, maybe he’d have ended up with “Give me liberty AND give me death.” Though I am inclined to believe such a quote would be less popular.
@ Mark
Agreed. Not only do you have the choice, but the roads leading to each are well sign-posted. Can’t ask for much more than that!
