We received a photo of this very interesting advertisement posted on a street lamp somewhere on the northwest side of Chicago. Thanks to our Chicago reader for sending in the image.
Hi!
If you are a white lady between 35 to 58 years old that needs a place to stay. Free rent I can use your company. Call Vivian or Don. 1-708-XXX-XXXX. [Number redacted]
So, let’s have a little conversation about what’s wrong or odd about this ad. We’re not even sure where to start.
if only I were younger!
This note is super creepy and weird on a lot of levels.
Is the lady keeping both Vivian and Don company?
How desperate for a place to stay would you have to be to even respond to an add like this?
Does anyone really respond to a note on a telephone pole? Wouldn’t an add in the paper or online be way more effective?
@ Maire,
Totally agree! What a weird, creepy note.
I’m pretty confident this note will end up as a key piece of evidence featured in an episode of America’s Most Wanted or something like that.
I have to suspect this is a secret message shared as part of a John Le Carre novel in real life, and has nothing whatsoever to do with the topic it pretends to be about.
