Forgive My Enthusiasm?

With the speed at which we share information, I think it’s safe to say that we all make a lot more typos than we used to, especially when typing on our phones. Which is fine, because I think we’ve become more lenient about spelling and grammatical errors as well.

It’s hard to afford the same leniency to punctuation marks. Those tiny little symbols, for better or worse, have the power to change the sentence.

So that brings me to the crux of the problem. While I love my opposable thumbs to death, they’ve not yet evolved to the point where I can hit the exclamation mark instead of the question mark every single time on my phone, and my finger’s already hit ‘send’ before I catch my mistake.

Maybe I need to type slower. Maybe the friendly folks at Apple should put the (?) and the (!) a little further apart on the iPhone. Or maybe I need to lay off the exclamation marks.

The risk of sending “I love you?” to the better half may not be worth it.

  1. At 6’4″ the big thumbs problem impacts all of my cell phone typing. It’s often irritating enough that I wish I would go back to those simpler days of a dumb phone.

  2. @forkboy, I hear you: and people well below 6’4 have the same problem. Maybe with the ever increasing phone sizes…

    @smitzy: love it!
