Fire Pit

A fire pit

No, I don’t think this is a fire pit. Nor do I think that wood log is going to fit.

  1. This picture reminds me of a story I was told of a wise man who decided that he wanted to burn a tree in his fireplace. Since he was a wise man he realized the tree would not fit. Thus, he decided to just push the tree into the fireplace as the fire consumed the base of the tree/log. I wonder if the results of his attempts were the same as whoever put the log in the grill?

Technically no, it was from a park district park in a Chicago suburb, but pretty much the same thing. These same grills pervade every public park in Chicagoland I think!

  3. @ Conall Just reminds me very much of a scene in my mind from one of the Forest Preserve Parks off Ogden at the corner of Ogden and Wolf.

    Bemis! Bemis Woods. That’s it.

I used to ride my mountain bike along the Salt Creek Trail, which I would take over to Bemis as well.

    Such great memories…

I have always liked these grills. Simple and rugged. Definitely a tool to get the job done. No, not the most efficient grill, but I rather like the aspect of an open fire and all the food visible to watch as it cooks. I think it makes the cookout more “authentic”. Maybe just a small step closer to the cooking over bonfires of eons past.
