Receiving change from a recent purchase, I was surprised to see an ad stamped in red ink on both the front and back of a U.S. dollar bill. It’s hard to read on the computer screen, and the red-on-green contrast doesn’t help either, so I’ve copied the ad below:
See where I’ve been.
Track where I go next!
www.wheresgeorge.com
My first reaction: What a brilliant idea! My second thought: Actually, it’s hard to read. Third thought: Do I need to report this defacing of official US currency to the US Treasury Department?
What do you think about advertising on a dollar bill?
I used that site to track some of the money in my pocket. It’s pretty cool!
It might be interesting, but not if I have to give up my e-mail address.
Do you think the Treasury sends people out to track who is defacing government property? If so, do those cops really try to back track the dollar bill to the source of the stamp? I would kind of find it humorous hearing about how the Treasury is arresting people for something like this (assuming I did not know the person being arrested).
Maybe this whole thing is a government conspiracy. Perhaps the treasury dreamed this up as a way to track money launderers, terrorists, or counterfeiters?
“Wait a minute boys…someone just accessed ‘wheresgeorge.com’ from Afghanistan…let’s roll.”
