In Singapore it seems there was an ongoing problem with people urinating in elevators. Apparently it is some sort of protest method.
In an effort to combat that disturbing trend, many elevators now are equipped with sensors which detect urine and then lock the elevator until the police arrive to arrest the perpetrator. I am not sure what’s up with the icon used on this sign though; does you camera have the ability to detect urine?
I do not think my camera has that feature, but struggling through potty training of some younger children, I am pretty sure I have developed that ability.
I love that the sign gives the abbreviated version as well … like if ‘urine detection device’ didn’t make sense to the reader, then ‘UDD’ would. Great find!
To follow up on mark’s point, you would think that the practical application of this technology would not manifest itself in elevators. If i invented such a technology, I would market this invention for the betterment of mankind. For example, people like yourself with children of that age. How about to the makers of the diaper/underwear with the brand name of ‘Pull-Ups’? What about bathroom manufacturers who want to keep their floors clean?
UDD is the official term used by organizations on the lookout for this kind of activity. We even have one in my office building elevators. Apparently one of the analysts had a bit of a “problem” when he first started here. Nonetheless, the UDD has reduced the number of incidents to almost minimal since implementation. Technology works.
