A Chicago reader snapped this pic while riding the train in Chicago with her cell phone camera. Our reader comments: The photos in the advertisement are trying to inform people to be on alert for pickpockets, which is a helpful warning. However, one photo shows a couple with their arms around each other and the other shows someone’s wallet being removed from their pocket.
The sign appears to be informing people that there is a difference between “snuggling” and “snatching”. I am not sure how many people are not aware that there is a difference between these types of touching.
Perhaps they ought to print wallet-size photo comparisons of all sorts of crimes so that you can always have a handy reference to identify criminal behaviors.
For example: (1) This person entering the front door smiling at the host is going to a party, but (2) this person wearing a black ski mask and climbing through a broken window is burglarizing.
Here at ChickenMonkeyDog we love it when you submit photos of the quirky things you encounter to chickenmonkeydog [at] gmail [dot] com!
Usually the emptying of the wallet by the girlfriend is a lot more subtle and thorough. Perhaps the pickpockets should learn a thing or two!
Your for example bit made me snort quite loudly!
So, is the poster warning against snuggling with strangers who are only snuggling in order to steal a wallet? Or is the poster advising that a wallet can be snatched by a third party (not involved in the snuggling) during a snuggle? If it is the latter, then I think the ‘or’ in the poster isn’t required. Surely, one could snuggle AND get pickpocketed at the same time.
I personally love this ad and have considered this very issue. Perhaps this ad is in fact targeting boyfriends – beware of pickpocketing girlfriends WHILE snuggling.
I also love the CTA’s ad: “If it’s unwanted, it’s harassment”. I don’t want it to rain – so can Chicago weather be considered harassment?
Perhaps that guy who snatched my phone was actually trying to snuggle with me?

Ditto for the guy or girl who swiped my camera.
