Bravo you wonderful digital image!

Why is it that some people insist on applauding the ending credits at the movie theater?

There are only two possible reasons that I can think of:

1) Their applause is more of an attempt to draw attention to themselves rather than to show their appreciation for the movie.

OR

2) I really am part of a “Truman Show-like” reality TV show (as I’ve suspected all along) and the producers of this particular reality TV show are desperately trying to provoke a response which might result in either my looking foolish or my causing a public disturbance.

…in the event that the more probable conclusion of these two options is correct, you can tell Christof that I’m not taking the bait!

  1. I’ve never understood the applause at theaters either.

But, what if the theaters recorded the applause volume at each showing and published the results on a standardized rating scale so that one could go online and decide whether to see a movie based on how much applause the movie is actually getting? It would have to be more useful than simple gross-earnings rankings.

I suppose dramatic and sad movies would be at a disadvantage though.
