Below the Hydrant

Have you ever wondered what lay beneath the fire hydrants that you see around the city? Now, thanks to Beth (a reader in the Philadelphia area) we all can see the truth behind the legend.


For some reason it reminds me of rock candy on a stick. What about you?

Knowing that the water dispensing connections are about six feet long (not just the 2.5 feet we are used to seeing), do you think the term “fire plug” is still appropriate?
