A Spoonful of Sugar

Yes, it helps the medicine go down. So, perhaps it makes perfect sense that I spotted this public service announcement at a hospital.

The sugar content of different foods is represented in sugar cubes.

It got me wondering about what else could be represented interestingly this way? Burgers and fries in terms of ounces of fat? High fiber foods in terms of stacks of cardboard?

Lets hear your thoughts (don’t feel the need to limit yourself to food)

  1. OK. A few very, very common myths here.

    1) Those products do not contain any sugar at all. They have high-fructose corn syrup which is corn glucose with artificially added fructose. Its not sugar in any sense of the word. Your body doesn’t have to work as hard to separate HFC as it does with cane or fruit sugars so it stores it as fat more easily. The commercials that say that it is (as well as the FDA) are lying or otherwise very misinformed.

    2) Fat is not bad for you except for trans-isomer unsaturated fats or trans fats. Fat in general is good for you. It is necessary for brain function among other things. Contrary to popular belief, fat is only stored by the human body as fat when in survival mode. It is sugar and HFC that make us fat. Hunger is not the result of an empty stomach. It occurs when the body is requesting some particular nutrient. If you eat low nutrition empty calories, your hunger will not abate.

    3) High fiber cereals which taste like cardboard, are actually fairly bad for you. Eat an apple.
