Do You Dare?

Bison blood drink

Slightly off the beaten touristy path in central Brussels is a pub called Café Bizon. Listed among its jenevers and Belgian beers is the house signature cocktail: Bizon Blood. Of course, any self-respecting bar-hopping Millennial could rattle off a whole lineup of morbid and/or suggestive cocktail names, but this one gave me pause. Sitting below an intimidating stuffed bison head mounted on the wall, you have to ask yourself: Do I really want to order a drink named after this not-so-cuddly bovine?

Horns from bison and aurochs (ancestors of domestic cattle) were sometimes used as ceremonial drinking vessels during the Middle Ages, so perhaps it’s fitting after all.
