The other day I offered a young child the chance to pull a wishbone with me. The child was concerned: how would ripping apart a dried-out chicken bone bring good luck? Hmm … that one had me stumped. I couldn’t even offer the “It’s an old tradition …” explanation since I had no idea how the practice got started. It was an awkward, yet funny conversation.
