Having just put a few hundred miles behind me on the Pennsylvania – Ohio turnpike, I have a question I would like to pose to all deer. Why do they try to cross the road or highway when cars are coming through at 60 mph?
As I drove today, I wondered if deer would be as inclined to cross in front of a big car or truck if that vehicle were driving through the woods late at night.
Loads and loads of blood on the road today. Pretty gross, and seemingly senseless.
If it helps, there is a nice 8-point buck living in the small wood where I feed a colony of feral cats.
Fortunately there are no highways nearby.
I’ll try to ask him if the opportunity comes up. Who knows… he may have some helpful insights.
