Behold! A marriage proposal posing as a bus shelter ad in Chicago:

Marriage proposal advert

Rachel!  I love you!  Let’s be a team forever!  Will you marry me?  XOXO, Eric

Do you think they met on a bus?  What if she decides to take a taxi to work today?  Or rides the bus with the guy she’s seeing on the side?

How would you feel if you received a bus stop marriage proposal?

  1. This could be a scatter-shot technique. All he knows is that he wants a wife named Rachel and he has posted proposals all over town.

I suggest you embark upon a quest to visit every bus stop shelter to see if I’m right.

  2. I think that is super cute, although I am sure there are a few guys named eric who are dating rachels who hope their girlfriends don’t see that ad.

  3. Am I pretty smart if I figured out the symbols in the right column without having to read the Chicago Tribune article?

Incidentally, I think it would have made for a funnier story if Rachel had said ‘no’. Then everyone at the bus stop, plus everyone who reads the Tribune would know that Eric will NOT be marrying Rachel. Perhaps that is the cynic in me …

  4. Look at chickenmonkeydog!

We’re so on top of the quirky stories in the world that we’re publishing hot news items on the SAME DAY as the Chicago Tribune.

  5. Is it just me, or does the use of all caps and exclamation points make it seem as if Eric was yelling the proposal at Rachel?

  6. @ Maire: Eric just wanted to be certain she could hear the proposal over the sound of the buses.
