Yesterday I was really wanting a soda. A blast of caffeine. The bubbly effervescence. The sugar rush. And I like the taste of Coke.
When I got to the soda machine, I saw the name of someone I love. On a bottle. In the machine. On the top row. Why, yes, I would like to share a Coke with that wonderful person.
And yet, the soda machine would not let me specify which specific slot I wanted. I could only choose the soda type: Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, etc. I could not tell the machine that I wanted the soda with the name of my loved one on it.
So instead of enjoying an emotional connection to my soda, I resented having to share a soda with Elizabeth.
