Spider Powers

deer tickWhen Peter Parker was bitten by a spider, he received amazing strength, the ability to spin webs and an extremely acute sense of his surroundings. When I was bitten by a tick about 10 days ago, I got Lyme disease. Doesn’t seem quite fair, does it?

In thinking about Spiderman over the past week, I came to the conclusion that had I obtained similar super powers from the spider that bit me, I probably wouldn’t use those powers to fight crime. I think I would still, more or less, lead the same life I live now. However, I would do some pretty cool things with my Spidey-powers:

  • Create a really cool hammock in the back yard.
  • Trim back the tree in the yard that is scraping up against the house — without using a ladder.
  • Be more aware of the pending arrival of the UPS man.
  • Commute to work meetings by swinging on webs, provided that doing so didn’t make me all sweaty when I got there.

What other cool things would you do?

  1. I think it is important to realize that the spider Peter Parker was bitten by was a radioactive spider. Was your tick radioactive?

  2. With my luck I’m quite confident I would become some sort of host for a bunch of baby spiders/ticks, who would gnaw their collective way out of my innards and feast on my head.

    Still beats watching American Idol….

  3. I would make a really cool, multi-tiered trampoline in the back yard, stringing it up between the trees. It would be awesome!

  4. @ Liam – would you make it so ‘normal’ people without super powers could use it or would you design it in such a way that only other ‘spidermen’ could enjoy it?

  5. @ K,

For all to use! No super powers required. It would sort of be a Swiss Family Robinson Tree House / Trampoline.
